Instructor information
Dr. Miroslav M. Begovic received his B.S. and M.S. degrees, both in Electrical
Engineering, from Belgrade University, Yugoslavia. He received the Ph.D. degree
in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
in 1989 and joined the faculty of the School of Electrical Engineering at Georgia
Tech.
His studies focused on analysis, monitoring, and control of voltage stability
in electrical power systems. His research is concentrated on real-time monitoring
systems for control of power system dynamics, protective relaying, distribution
network operation, and distributed resources in energy systems. He was actively
involved in the design and construction of the 340 kW photovoltaic system on
the roof of the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center, which was the largest roof-mounted
PV system in the world at the time of its construction in 1996.
Professor Begovic consults with industry in the areas of wide area protection
and distribution system operation. He is an audiophile, music lover, and amateur
photographer.
Research Interests
* Wide area disturbances in transmission networks: analysis, protection and
emergency control
* Distributed energy resources in power systems: planning, interaction with
distribution and transmission networks
* Sustainable energy systems: photovoltaic system design, monitoring and performance
analysis
* Distribution network analysis: life cycling, interaction with transmission
networks, impact of distributed energy resources
* Applications of digital signal processing to power system protection
